TLDR
In this article, the impact of organizational size on the preferences of reporters and editors toward reporter decision-making was studied. But the authors did not consider the influence of the size of the organization on the preference of editors and reporters.
Abstract
The literature on existing decision-making practices, by beats, is sparse. Some investigative/ foreign,^ science,^ sports, women,\"* \"star,\"^ Washington,^ and city hair reporters have control over some work-related decisions. The city hall reporters, for example, said they had equal control with management over how to cover, time needed to report and to write, length of story and story suggestions. On many other decisions, they are consulted before management makes the decision or are not involved. Some literature examines organizational decision-making, e.g., Washington Post,^ Wall Street Journal,^ Boston Globe,''' New York Times,'' Minneapolis Star,'^ Los Angeles Times,'^ Siud Milwaukee Journal.'\"^ These studies, while useful, do not provide enough insight into the infiuence of organizational size on decision-making. This study attempts to fill part of that gap. Moreover, it will measure the impact of organizational size on the preferences of reporters and editors toward reporter decision-making. Now, it is only known that reporters generally prefer a consultative system of management and that editors prefer less reporter participation than do reporters.^^
