TL;DR: An investigation was conducted to determine whether removing the desk as a barrier between the doctor and the patient would have any effect on the way in which patients seated themselves, and it was observed that when no desk intervened, 55.4 per cent of the patients sat "at ease" in contrast to 10.8 per cent when a desk was interposed.
