Abstract
In this paper, the crystal growth of sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate from aqueous solutions, in a perfectly stirred batch crystallizer, has been studied considering the effect of temperature, supersaturation degree, and the size of seed crystal growth rate. The mass transfer coefficients obtained correlated with Re, Sc and NL dimensionaless numbers. Supersaturation curve determination using a 0.5 mW He-Ne laser, connected to an automated data acquisition system, was the first stage of the study. The supersaturation and saturation curves were closely parallel with average DT value of 4.1 and 6.8 °C for KNO3 and NaNO3 respectively. For the growth kinetics order, unit values were found for both salts, with diffusion as a controlling stage.

A multi-component mass transfer rate based model for simulation of non-equilibrium growth of crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, a model based on multi-component mass transfer is proposed for modeling the non-equilibrium growth behavior of crystals during solution crystallization, which can be applied to the estimation of impurity content and assessing the stability of crystalline pharmaceuticals.

A multi-stage multi-component transfer rate morphological population balance model for crystallization processes

TL;DR: In this paper, a morphological population balance equation (M3PBE) model is proposed to predict the spatial and temporal distribution of multi-components inside crystals during the course of crystallization as well as the multi-component composition of the product crystals.

Influence of substrate and temperature on the crystallization of KNO 3 droplets studied by infrared thermography

TL;DR: In this article, a non-destructive tool, the infrared thermography, was used to detect the presence of KNO3 in a building by means of evaporation of solution droplets that allowed the recording of all the processes with an infrared camera.
