TLDR
There is a definite difference in legibility between letters at contrast threshold as for letters at acuity threshold, and the very regular and pronounced miscalling of the letter C as an O should be accepted as a correct call during threshold measurements on the Pelli‐Robson chart.

Normal values for the Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity test.

TL;DR: The Pelli‐Robson contrast sensitivity test is a quick and reliable method in a clinical setting and can be of help in evaluating cataract patients or patients having refractive surgery.

Visual function and subjective quality of life compared in subjects with acquired macular disease.

TL;DR: The results suggest the importance of print contrast, even over print size, in reading performance in patients with acquired macular disease and suggest reading performance is strongly associated with vision-related quality of life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improving the design of the letter contrast sensitivity test.

TL;DR: A small-format letter contrast sensitivity test with improved accuracy, suitable for portable use and near testing, and having a simple and unambiguous scoring system that can be used with reference to existing norms is developed.

Vision and mobility performance of subjects with age-related macular degeneration.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) on mobility performance and to identify the vision determinants of mobility in subjects with ARMD were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

An evaluation of the Mars Letter Contrast Sensitivity Test.

TL;DR: The new Mars Letter Contrast Sensitivity Test shows excellent agreement with the Pelli-Robson test and has similar repeatability, suggesting that the Mars test may be a useful alternative to the Plli- Robson test offering several advantages, including smaller size, improved durability, and ease of use.

New visual acuity charts for clinical research

TL;DR: Three new visual acuity charts facilitate quantitative use ofVisual acuity test results by providing high-contrast lettering on washable white polystyrene on which to test right and left eyes.

The design of a new letter chart for measuring contrast sensitivity

TL;DR: It is concluded that, for a clinical test, letters are more suitable than gratings, and a mathematical model of the observer and the chart-testing procedure has been used to predict how the accuracy and repeatability of the test score depend on the parameters of the chart and observer.

New design principles for visual acuity letter charts.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduced new principles for the design and use of letter charts for the measurement of visual acuity, and advocated that the test task should be essentially the same at each size level on the chart.
Journal ArticleDOI

The reliability of the Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity chart.

TL;DR: Normative contrast sensitivity (CS) data were obtained using the commercially available Pelli‐Robson chart from the dominant eye of 30 young and older subjects with normal healthy eyes and showed to be repeatable to within ±1 step.

Visual recognition of isolated lower-case letters

TL;DR: Perceptual cues prevail over bias effects in eccentric vision, and bias effects occur towards letters that occur frequently in the printed language, but they are restricted to confusions.
