TLDR
In this paper, a high-resolution data set was used to estimate a behavioral model of fishermen's spatial choices and to measure the degree to which individual fishermen's choices appear aimed at mitigating the tragedy of the commons in a small numbers setting.

Causal inference in coupled human and natural systems.

TL;DR: To examine the relevance of interference in CHANS, a stylized simulation of a marine CHANS with shocks that can represent policy interventions, ecological disturbances, and technological disasters is developed.

The Economics of Territorial Use Rights Fisheries, or TURFs

TL;DR: The most recent stage in the evolution of fisheries management institutions has been the adoption of so-called rights-based management schemes that grant secure rights of access to users so as to protect the rights of users as discussed by the authors.

The New Fisheries Economics: Incentives Across Many Margins

TL;DR: New research in fisheries economics addresses incentives across many margins including within-season effects, incentives to harvest different ages and sizes of fish, responses to ecological disturbances, spatial choices, and multispecies interactions as mentioned in this paper.

Hidden Flexibility: Institutions, Incentives, and the Margins of Selectivity in Fishing

TL;DR: This paper examined data for a multispecies trawl fishery before and after a transition from management under common-pool quotas to a fishery cooperative and noted a substantial shift in post-cooperative catch from bycatch and toward valuable target species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seafood prices reveal impacts of a major ecological disturbance

TL;DR: Evidence that hypoxia causes economic effects on a major fishery that was once the most valuable fishery in America is provided and an alternative approach using a market counterfactual that is immune to contamination from feedbacks in the coupled system is offered.

Discrete Choice Methods with Simulation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the new generation of discrete choice methods, focusing on the many advances that are made possible by simulation, and compare simulation-assisted estimation procedures, including maximum simulated likelihood, method of simulated moments, and methods of simulated scores.

Bayesian Model Selection in Social Research

TL;DR: In this article, a Bayesian approach to hypothesis testing, model selection, and accounting for model uncertainty is presented, which is straightforward through the use of the simple and accurate BIC approximation, and it can be done using the output from standard software.
