DRAW: A Recurrent Neural Network For Image Generation
TLDR
The Deep Recurrent Attentive Writer neural network architecture for image generation substantially improves on the state of the art for generative models on MNIST, and, when trained on the Street View House Numbers dataset, it generates images that cannot be distinguished from real data with the naked eye.Abstract:
This paper introduces the Deep Recurrent Attentive Writer (DRAW) neural network architecture for image generation. DRAW networks combine a novel spatial attention mechanism that mimics the foveation of the human eye, with a sequential variational auto-encoding framework that allows for the iterative construction of complex images. The system substantially improves on the state of the art for generative models on MNIST, and, when trained on the Street View House Numbers dataset, it generates images that cannot be distinguished from real data with the naked eye.read more

Decoupled Weight Decay Regularization
Ilya Loshchilov,Frank Hutter +1 more
TL;DR: This work proposes a simple modification to recover the original formulation of weight decay regularization by decoupling the weight decay from the optimization steps taken w.r.t. the loss function, and provides empirical evidence that this modification substantially improves Adam's generalization performance.

CBAM: Convolutional Block Attention Module
TL;DR: Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) as discussed by the authors is a simple yet effective attention module for feed-forward convolutional neural networks, given an intermediate feature map, the module sequentially infers attention maps along two separate dimensions, channel and spatial, then the attention maps are multiplied to the input feature map for adaptive feature refinement.
