TLDR
In this article, the authors characterized the dynamic motion of a countercurrent flow reactor with complex dynamics by constructing the space-time dependence of the temperature or concentration, and showed that the time average of heat removal by cooling through the wall is either equal or exceeds that of the convective heat removal.

Symmetry properties and bifurcation analysis of a class of periodically forced chemical reactors

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss how periodic forcing may induce symmetry properties into mathematical models of chemical reactors, and show that all the reactors belonging to this class have spatio-temporal symmetry.

General Approach for the Reduction of Detailed Models for Fast Cycling Processes

TL;DR: In this article, a general method to derive shortcut models of fast cycling processes preserving a maximum of the features of the original system was proposed, and the feasibility of this approach is demonstrated using a reverse-flow reactor and a pressure-swing adosrption process as test cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of product adsorption on the operation of a reverse‐flow reactor

TL;DR: The adsorption on the catalyst surface of the product of an exothermic reaction in a reverse-flow reactor (RFR) may lead to large variations in the temporal effluent product concentration using a dilute reactant feed.

One-step and extrapolation methods for differential- algebraic systems

TL;DR: The paper analyzes one-step methods for differential-algebraic equations (DAE) in terms of convergence order in view of extrapolation methods and certain perturbed asymptotic expansions are shown to hold.

Reverse-Flow Operation in Fixed Bed Catalytic Reactors

TL;DR: The transition from the usual steady-state mode of continuous processes toward forced unsteady state conditions (FUSC) has been discussed in chemical engineering literature since the beginning of the 1960s as mentioned in this paper.

Equivalence of one- and two-phase models for heat transfer processes in packed beds: one dimensional theory

TL;DR: In this article, the axial effective thermal conductivity in the one-phase model and the heat transfer coefficient in the twophase model were derived without assuming that the solid and gas temperatures are equal.

Complex dynamic features of a cooled reverse‐flow reactor

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a method for constructing maps of parameter regions in which a cooled RFR has qualitatively different dynamic features, and applied the technique to determine the dependence of these dynamic features on the cooling capacity and flow-reversal period.

Periodic, quasiperiodic and chaotic spatiotemporal patterns in a tubular catalytic reactor with periodic flow reversal

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-phase model of the catalytic reactor with periodic flow reversal is presented, and the transitions among individual types of spatiotemporal patterns and their development are studied by means of Poincare maps of the associated model represented as a one-parameter family of discrete dynamical systems derived from simulation results of the original continuous model.
