Effect of alternative conceptual models in a preliminary performance assessment for the waste isolation pilot plant

TLDR
The most appropriate conceptual model for performance assessment (PA) at the waste isolation pilot plant (WIPP) is believed to include gas generation resulting from corrosion and microbial action in the repository, and a dual-porosity (matrix and fracture porosity) representation for the solute transport in the Culebra dolomite member of the Rustler formation as mentioned in this paper.

Sensitivity analysis and related analyses: A review of some statistical techniques

TL;DR: In this article, five related types of analysis, namely sensitivity or what-if analysis, uncertainty or risk analysis, screening, validation, and optimization, are reviewed, and the main questions are: when should which type of analysis be applied; which statistical techniques may then be used?

Sensitivity analysis and related analyses: A review of some statistical techniques

TL;DR: This paper claims that the proper sequence to follow in the evaluation of simulation models is validation, in which the availability of data on the real system determines which type of statistical technique to use for validation.

Historical relationship between performance assessment for radioactive waste disposal and other types of risk assessment.

TL;DR: The evolution of the process for assessing the hazards of a geologic disposal system for radioactive waste and nuclear power reactors and the relationship of this process with other assessments of risk is described, particularly assessments of hazards from manufactured carcinogenic chemicals during use and disposal.

Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis results obtained in the 1992 performance assessment for the waste isolation pilot plant

TL;DR: In this article, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis results obtained in the 1992 performance assessment (PA) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) are presented, where the primary performance measure under study is the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) used in assessing compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) standard for the geologic disposal of radioactive waste.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conceptual structure of the 1996 performance assessment for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant

TL;DR: The conceptual structure of the 1996 performance assessment (PA) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is described and a probabilistic characterization of the uncertainty in the parameters used in the definition of EN1 and EN2 is described.

A comparison of three methods for selecting values of input variables in the analysis of output from a computer code

TL;DR: In this paper, two sampling plans are examined as alternatives to simple random sampling in Monte Carlo studies and they are shown to be improvements over simple sampling with respect to variance for a class of estimators which includes the sample mean and the empirical distribution function.

Porous Media: Fluid Transport and Pore Structure

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between transport properties and pore structure of porous material and presented models of pore structures with a discussion of how such models can be used to predict the transport properties of porous media.
