TLDR
The purpose of this study is to quantitate separately the hemody namic significance of active atrial transport compared with passive atrial Transport of the atrium at two different heart rates in patients with mitral stenosis.

Dobutamine stress echocardiography for noninvasive assessment and risk stratification of patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis

TL;DR: In patients with MS, DSE is a safe and highly feasible stress test that identifies a subgroup of high-risk patients in whom a more aggressive approach may be warranted and may justify a more conservative strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atrial contribution to ventricular filling in mitral stenosis.

TL;DR: The atrial booster pump contributes less to ventricular filling in mitral stenosis than in the normal heart, and the loss of atrial pump function is less important than the effect increasing heart rate as the cause of decompensation during atrial fibrillation.

LV twisting and untwisting in HCM: Ejection begets filling: Diastolic functional aspects of HCM

TL;DR: An emerging new paradigm of diastolic dynamics, emphasizing the relationship of myofiber sheet and ultraconstituent distortion to LV mechanics and end-systolic shape, might clarify intricate patterns of early diastsolic rebound and suction, needed for LV filling in many of the polymorphic phenotypes of HCM.

Mitral stenosis: Left atrial dynamics reflect altered passive and active emptying

TL;DR: To assess the passive and the active phases of left atrial (LA) emptying, LA volumes and function were studied in patients with mitral stenosis in sinus rhythm and in normal subjects with two-dimensional echocardiography with simultaneous electrocardiograms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pacing tachycardia and balloon valvuloplasty on pulmonary artery impedance and hydraulic power in mitral stenosis.

TL;DR: It is suggested that although characteristic impedance may be a measure of the long-term effects of pulmonary hypertension on the pulmonary circulation, acute increases and decreases in PA pressure produce effects on right ventricular load that are best described in terms of the low-frequency properties of the PA system.

Hydraulic formula for calculation of the area of the stenotic mitral valve, other cardiac valves, and central circulatory shunts. I

TL;DR: Standard hydrokinetic orifice formulas applied to stenotic mitral, pulmonic, tricuspid, and aortic valves, patent ductus arteriosus, and atrial and ventricular septal defects present an objective evaluation of surgical procedures designed to widen stenotic orifices or to abolish abnormal shunts.

TL;DR: The present observations on temporal phenomena in cardiac ejection suggests the practical application of these techniques in the evaluation of patients with various cardiovascular disorders.

Hemodynamic effects of altering the timing of atrial systole.

TL;DR: The use of heart block dog preparations allowed an investigation at constant ventricular rates of the hemodynamic effects which resulted when the timing of atrial systole was altered relative to the resting heart.
