TLDR
In this paper, the effect of graphite and ceramic particulate and graphite additions on the high temperature dry sliding wear resistance of two Al alloys was studied using a ring-on-flat sliding contact configuration against hardened SAE 52100 bearing steel counterfaces on an apparatus built for testing at controlled temperatures.

The effect of metal fibers on the friction performance of automotive brake friction materials

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of different metallic fibers upon friction and wear performance of various brake friction couples was investigated based on a simple experimental formulation, friction materials with different metal fibers (Cu, steel, or Al) were fabricated and then evaluated using a small-scale friction tester.

The role of tribo-layers on the sliding wear behavior of graphitic aluminum matrix composites

TL;DR: In this article, the role played by the tribo-layers that form on the contact surfaces during the sliding wear of graphitic cast aluminum matrix composites was investigated and three main wear regimes, namely, ultra mild, mild and severe wear were determined.

Complexities of compression failure

TL;DR: In this article, the authors defined the complexities of compression failure in terms of the three well known failure modes: yielding, cone failure, and axial splitting, and proposed new failure criteria for compression cracking based on the energy balance theory of fracture.
