Elasto-Plastic Contact of Rough Surfaces

TLDR
In this paper, an isothermal elasto-plastic asperity contact model is developed and presented, which deals with micro plastic flows of materials and the influence of the elastoflastic deformation of materials on the behavior of contacting surfaces.
Abstract
An isothermal elasto-plastic asperity contact model is developed and presented in this paper, which deals with micro plastic flows of materials and the influence of the elasto-plastic deformation of materials on the behavior of contacting surfaces. The model is solved with the incremental form of a simplex-type algorithm. The von Mises yield criterion is used to determine the onset of the plastic deformation. The effectiveness and validity of the model are studied through analyzing a Hertzian contact problem. Substrate stresses are calculated and differences are observed. Furthermore, the contact pressure, real area of contact, and average gap of real rough surfaces under the elastic, elastic-perfectly-plastic, and the elasto-plastic contact conditions are numerically investigated and the results are compared. Elastic-Plastic Contact Analysis of a Sphere and a Rigid Flat

TL;DR: An elastic-plastic finite element model for the frictionless contact of a deformable sphere pressed by a rigid flat is presented in this paper, which provides dimensionless expressions for the contact load, contact area and mean contact pressure, covering a large range of interference values from yielding inception to fully plastic regime of the spherical contact zone.

Pressure-Driven Interface Evolution in Solid-State Lithium Metal Batteries

TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-scale three-dimensional time-dependent contact model for describing the Li-SE interface evolution under stack pressure is presented, which considers the surface roughness of the Li and SEs, Li elastoplasticity, Li creep, and the Li metal plating/stripping process.

Contact of Nominally Flat Surfaces

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a new theory of elastic contact, which is more closely related to real surfaces than earlier theories, and showed how the contact deformation depends on the topography of the surface, and established the criterion for distinguishing surfaces which touch elastically from those which touch plastically.
