TLDR
Over the past 30 years, research into environmental noise and sleep has focused on different situations and environments, and therefore the findings are variable, but it still seems necessary for some fundamental questions to be answered on whether environmental noise has long-term detrimental effects on health and quality of life and, if so, what these effects are for night-time, noise-exposed populations.

Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of the environment of a simulated shelter in a gymnasium on sleep in children

TL;DR: The results indicate that the environment of the simulated shelter in the gymnasium severely disturbed sleep in children and the resulting loss of sleep was compensated for by increased nocturnal sleep time and daytime napping on the next day.
Journal ArticleDOI

Noise Disturbances and Calls for Police Service in València (Spain): A Logistic Model with Spatial and Temporal Effects.

TL;DR: There is a problem of "social" noise in València that is not exclusively a consequence of coexistence between local residents and external factors such as the increasing number of people on the streets during weekend nights or during summer months severely increase the chances of expecting a noise incident.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vibrometry Assessment of the External Thermal Composite Insulation Systems Influence on the Façade Airborne Sound Insulation

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of the use of an external thermal composite system (ETICS) on air-borne sound insulation was evaluated using a modified engineering ΔR prediction model for frequency range up to coincidence frequency of external plaster layer.

The Effects of Noise on Man

TL;DR: Book on noise effects on man covering audiometry, aural reflex, hearing damage risk, physiological responses, motor performance and speech communication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Self-reported sleep disturbances in employed women.

TL;DR: There were higher incidences of sleep disturbances and excessive sleepiness for women working night and rotating shifts, but age and family factors, rather than caffeine and alcohol intake, contributed to the differences in types ofSleep disturbances these women experienced.

Journal ArticleDOI

Aircraft noise and mental health: I. Prevalence of individual symptoms.

TL;DR: Many acute symptoms showed an increase with noise, and this was particularly evident for waking at night, irritability, depression, difficulty in getting to sleep, swollen ankles, burns/cuts/minor accidents, and skin troubles.
