TLDR
Over the past 30 years, research into environmental noise and sleep has focused on different situations and environments, and therefore the findings are variable, but it still seems necessary for some fundamental questions to be answered on whether environmental noise has long-term detrimental effects on health and quality of life and, if so, what these effects are for night-time, noise-exposed populations.

The effect of sound with different frequencies on selective attention and human response time

TL;DR: Due to the significance relationship between frequency of sound and interference score and interference time of individuals, by changing these factors, the reaction time and the time for mental tests and the degree of error of individuals are changed.
Journal Article

Beyond time management: time use, performance and well-being

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that good time use results from choosing activities that help people to satisfy their basic needs and are directed at intrinsic goals (helping other people, establishing relationships, developing and growing as a person, maintaining health and balance in one's life).

Noise Pollution as a Cardiovascular Health Hazard

TL;DR: This retrospective study provides a comprehensive review of the new evidence linking noise pollution to cardiovascular risk and considers some fundamental issues concerning noise and its consequences on the cardiovascular system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship between tyre cavity noise and road surface characteristics on low-noise pavements

TL;DR: In this paper, a protocol to study Tyre Cavity Noise (TCN) was developed, which was measured on 24 different road pavements, together with tyre noise emission measured with the Close-Proximity (CPX) method and road texture measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Residential Exposure to Road and Railway Noise and Risk of Prostate Cancer: A Prospective Cohort Study.

TL;DR: The present study does not support an overall association between either railway or road traffic noise and overall prostate cancer, although there seemed to be a suggestion of an association among never smokers.

The Effects of Noise on Man

TL;DR: Book on noise effects on man covering audiometry, aural reflex, hearing damage risk, physiological responses, motor performance and speech communication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Self-reported sleep disturbances in employed women.

TL;DR: There were higher incidences of sleep disturbances and excessive sleepiness for women working night and rotating shifts, but age and family factors, rather than caffeine and alcohol intake, contributed to the differences in types ofSleep disturbances these women experienced.

Journal ArticleDOI

Aircraft noise and mental health: I. Prevalence of individual symptoms.

TL;DR: Many acute symptoms showed an increase with noise, and this was particularly evident for waking at night, irritability, depression, difficulty in getting to sleep, swollen ankles, burns/cuts/minor accidents, and skin troubles.
