Factors affecting successful implementation of management information systems/decision support systems (MIS/DSS) are analyzed as to how they may affect the development of business-oriented expert systems (ES).
Abstract
Factors affecting successful implementation of management information systems/decision support systems (MIS/DSS) are analyzed as to how they may affect the development of business-oriented expert systems (ES). The usefulness of some of the classical approaches for successful implementation of MIS/DSS is also questioned as to their applicability to ES. New factors affecting ES implementation success are delineated and hypothesized. Recommendations for safer knowledge engineering are provided. >

Lp: an expert system for lease versus purchase decision

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed the use of expert systems for the joint process of corporate capital budgeting decision and finance decision. But they did not consider the complex nature of the lease versus purchase decision.

Analytical framework for studying the effects of user participation in DSS development

TL;DR: This work highlights importance of user participation during DSS development and considered it as a necessary element and impact of user's participation on system implementation has also been measured via a scenario.

R1: a rule-based configurer of computer systems

TL;DR: R1 is a program that configures VAX-11/780 computer systems and uses Match as its principal problem solving method; it has sufficient knowledge of the configuration domain and of the peculiarities of the various configuration constraints that at each step in the configuration process, it simply recognizes what to do.

Early Diagnosis of MIS Implementation Failure: Promising Results and Unanswered Questions

TL;DR: The results strongly suggest that users who hold realistic expectations prior to implementation are more satisfied with the system and use it more than users whose pre-implementation expectations are unrealistic.

Empirical evidence for a descriptive model of implementation

TL;DR: Nine empirical studies which furnish data to test hypotheses derived from a descriptive model of implementation are summarized, hoped that hypothesis testing and models of implementation such as those proposed in [14] along with empirical studies will provide a better understanding of the variables associated with success.

Successful Information System Development in Relation to Situational Factors Which Affect Effective Communication Between MIS-Users and EDP-Specialists

B. De Brabander, +1 more
- 01 Feb 1984 -
TL;DR: The paper describes the results of an experimental test of a theoretical model which explains under what circumstances the interaction between MIS-users and EDP-specialists during the design of an EDP system is explained.
