Forest variability index: a vector quantifying forest stand diversity and forest compactness

TLDR
In this article, a vector of forest variability consisting of a forest stand diversity index and a compactness index has been defined, which can be used for valuation of forest diversity and for developing sustainable forest management plans.

TL;DR: Three commonly used measures of diversity, Simpson's index, Shannon's entropy, and the total number of species, are related to Renyi's definition of a generalized entropy, according to which there is a continuum of possible diversity measures.
