TLDR
In this paper, the authors analyze the conditions that compel and underscore global supply chain adaptation for automotive manufacturing expansion, including market entry considerations, the establishment of a three-stage flexible time-and production-based supplier network plan, and the integration of logistics partners.Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to understand and describe the conditions that compel and underscore global supply chain (SC) adaptations.Design/methodology/approach – Insights from contingency theory, Porter's economic cluster theory and international factory mapping are used to analyze the SC adaptations that follow when an automotive firm moves from a domestic to a global SC.Findings – An automotive global SC adaptation includes market entry considerations, the establishment of a three‐stage flexible time‐ and production‐based supplier network plan, and the integration of logistics partners.Research limitations/implications – SC adaptations are an important consideration for any manufacturing expansion effort, especially international ones. Varying production levels impact supplier relationships and decisions and may result in varied supplier perspectives. Government regulations influence entry and routine decisions, while logistics issues and costs play an integral role in supplier perceptions ...read more

The impact of supply chain integration on the “snowball effect” in the transmission of disruptions: An empirical evaluation of the model
TL;DR: In this paper, a model for the "snowball effect" linking the intensity and span of supply chain integration to the amplification of transmitted disruptions is proposed, which is based on the partial least square (PLS) approach.

Emerging market characteristics and supply network adjustments in internationalising food supply chains
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the effect of emerging market characteristics on supply network design through case studies involving international food manufacturers entering emerging markets and found that institutions, and primary and supportive actors may often be considered as potential constraints, and appear to have a dominant role in determining the adjustment of supply network's structural attributes.

Clusters and the new economics of competition.
TL;DR: Economic geography in an era of global competition poses a paradox: in theory, location should no longer be a source of competitive advantage, but in practice, Michael Porter demonstrates, location remains central to competition.
