Glucose tolerance in viral hepatitis.
TLDR
Abnormal glucose tolerance was found in five of 14 consecutive patients in the icteric phase of acute non-fulminant viral hepatitis, and the deranged carbohydrate meabolism probably reflects a combination of stress and viral infection.Abstract:
Abnormal glucose tolerance was found in five of 14 consecutive patients in the icteric phase of acute non-fulminant viral hepatitis. Two had a subnormal insulin response in the icteric phase of their illness. The abnormality in glucose tolerance was transient and all five showed a normal response to oral glucose when their jaundice had cleared. Transient abnormalities of glucose tolerance are common in patients with viral hepatitis. True fasting hypoglycaemia was not observed in this series. The deranged carbohydrate meabolism probably reflects a combination of stress and viral infection.read more

Viruses and diabetes: is there something sweet about hepatitis C infection?
TL;DR: The current classification of diabetes distinguishes type 1 from type 2 diabetes on the presumption that each disorder is caused by separate mechanisms, but it is possible that similar genetic and environmental factors impact on the pathogenesis of both disorders.

TL;DR: Exercise in man improved glucose tolerance during bedrest, and vertically immobilized monkeys demonstrated significant glucose intolerance, and it was concluded that the glucose intolerance of bedrest is a function of the decrease in physical activity.

Glucose Intolerance and Insulin Resistance in Patients With Liver Disease
TL;DR: Observations suggest that significant insulin resistance was present in patients with liver disease, and comparable degrees of glucose intolerance during both the oral and intravenous GTT, despite the presence of hyperinsulinemia in the former group.
