Haemodynamic changes in women taking oral contraceptives

TLDR
Haemodynamic changes were monitored serially in a group of 30 healthy young women receiving combined oestrogen‐progestogen oral contraceptive therapy and significant increases in cardiac output, systolic and mean blood pressures and plasma volume occurred during therapy.

Physiologic changes during normal pregnancy and delivery.

TL;DR: The major adaptations of the maternal cardiovascular system that progress throughout gestation may unmask previously unrecognized heart disease and result in significant morbidity and mortality.

Canine vascular tissues are targets for androgens, estrogens, progestins, and glucocorticoids.

TL;DR: It is hypothesize that steroid hormones can have direct effects on vascular tissues medicated by specific receptors present in arterial blood vessel walls via cytoplasmic steroid receptor proteins in vascular tissues of dogs.

Disparate cardiovascular findings in men and women with essential hypertension.

TL;DR: It is concluded that premenopausal women are hemodynamically younger than men of the same chronologic age and essential hypertension is less lethal in women than in men.

Control of vascular resistance in the maternal and feto-placental arterial beds

TL;DR: This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the mechanisms involved in the physiological adaptation of the vasculature to pregnancy and the hitherto unappreciated and very important role of the endothelium-derived vasodilator, nitric oxide, in the control of peripheral vascular resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vascular Effects of Progesterone: Role of Cellular Calcium Regulation

TL;DR: The data suggest that progesterone effects on vascular tissue may, at least in part, be mediated by modulation of the L-type calcium channel current activity and, consequently, of cytosolic-free calcium content.

Clinical calorimetry: tenth paper a formula to estimate the approximate surface area if height and weight be known

TL;DR: Means has found that the range of normal variation from the average is smaller and the apparent depression of metabolism in obesity is much less marked when the linear formula, instead of Meeh's formula, is used to determine surface area.

Improved Assay Methods for Renin "Concentration" and "Activity" in Human Plasma Methods Using Selective Denaturation Of Renin Substrate

TL;DR: Simplified methods are described for the measurement of human plasma renin “concentration” (PRC) and “activity’ (PRA) based on the denaturation of renin substrate in which separation and concentration steps are avoided and recovery of ren in is complete.
