The origin, kinetics, and characteristics of the kupffer cells in the normal steady state

TL;DR: It was proven that these dividing cells were immature mononuclear phagocytes very recently recruited from the bone marrow, and the absence of an increase of labeled Kupffer cells during treatment with hydrocortisone, which causes a monocytopenia during which no circulating monocytes are available to migrate to the tissues.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scavenger functions of the liver endothelial cell.

TL;DR: It is shown that the liver endothelial cells make up an important part of the hepatic reticuloendothelial system in that they are specialized in receptor-mediated endocytosis of a number of macromolecules which are taken up only to a minor extent, or not at all, by other types of liver cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Endogenous nitric oxide inhibits the synthesis of cyclooxygenase products and interleukin-6 by rat Kupffer cells

TL;DR: Results show that N=O influences the production of specific inflammatory mediators by KCs and inhibits PGE2 and TXB2 production through diminished PGH2 availability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clearance Capacity of Rat Liver Kupffer, Endothelial, and Parenchymal Cells

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that nonphagocytosing parenchymal and endothelial cells make an important contribution to the clearance of the various test substances which, in addition, is highly dependent on the nature of the substance used.
