Abstract
Aspects of the vitreo-retinal surgery techniques that are used in various ocular conditions are illustrated. They are intended to reveal the enormous benefits that they bring in the surgery of the eye and their particularities, according to the ocular conditions requiring them. The diseases in which the vitreo-retinal surgery has been used are: vitreous hemorrhages, proliferative vitreo-retinopathies, lens dislocations, retinal detachments, ocular infections, intraocular foreign bodies. The preoperative functional and objective findings are described, the operative techniques are individualized, according to the ocular condition and the postoperative outcomes are analized. High technology vitreous surgery has brought the solution in cases beyond any cure.

Comparison of scleral buckling and vitrectomy for superior retinal detachment caused by flap tears

TL;DR: Primary vitrectomy was as successful as scleral buckling for superior rhegmatogenous retinal detachment although a high incidence of postoperative cataract formation was a major drawback.
