TLDR
It is shown how information and information gain as well as efficiency (in the sense defined in this paper) can be measured directly.
Abstract
In this section we wish to further elaborate on the results of the preceding chapter. There we have shown that we may split the joint probability distribution function P(ξ u , ξ s ) which refers to the order parameters, ξ u , and enslaved-mode amplitudes, ξ s , into a product of the form $$P\left( {{\xi _u},{\xi _s}} \right)\prod\limits_s {{P_s}\left( {{\xi _s}\left| {{\xi _u}} \right.} \right)f\left( {{\xi _u}} \right)}$$ (7.1) .

Reconstruction of spatio-temporal signals of complex systems

TL;DR: A novel method is proposed to analyze spatiotemporal signals emerging from synergetic systems to reconstruct the spatial modes, as well as their dynamic interaction close to instabilities, in nonlinear self-organizing systems.

Evolution of the entropy of stationary states in selforganization processes in the control parameter space

TL;DR: The behaviour of entropy (Shannon-information) and renormalized entropy (based on the S-theorem) is investigated for systems with an exponential stationary probability distribution function (1) and results for the derivatives with respect to the control parameters are derived.

Information and information gain close to nonequilibrium phase transitions. Numerical results

TL;DR: This work calculates explicitly the information of a single order parameter close to a nonequilibrium phase transition and discusses by means of the result why the relevant quantities are interpreted as information rather than as entropy.

The behaviour of the entropy during transitions far from thermodynamic equilibrium: I. Sustained oscillations

TL;DR: In this paper, the Brownian motion of nonlinear oscillators imbedded in a heat bath is studied and the entropy is calculated in the limit of weak dissipation and weak noise.

Quantum theory of light propagation in a fluctuating laser-active medium

TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation of an electromagnetic field in a fluctuating laser-active medium is described by two-level atoms which are embedded in a merely passive solid matrix and homogeneously distributed over space.
