Segregation ratios in the F2 generation of 13 resistant to 3 susceptible plants fit a 2-gene model for resistance with dominant and recessive epistasis.Abstract:
Inheritance studies were conducted to determine the genetic basis of adult-plant resistance in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) to Phytophthora capsici. F1, backcrosses and F2 populations were developed using the resistant parent Criollo de Morellos 334 and susceptible parents Agronomico 10-G and Yolo Wonder. Pepper plants, at 36 days post-emergence, were inoculated near the base of the stem with an inoculum suspension of 5×104 zoospores/ml. Segregation ratios in the F2 generation of 13 resistant to 3 susceptible plants fit a 2-gene model for resistance with dominant and recessive epistasis.read more

Ecologically Based Approaches to Management of Phytophthora Blight on Bell Pepper
TL;DR: The biology and epidemiology of Phytophthora blight on bell pepper are discussed and management strategies are described based on existing knowledge of the ecology of this devastating pathogen to improve ability to manage the disease using ecologically based approaches.

TL;DR: To study the resistance of pepper to Phytophthora capsici, 94 doubled-haploid lines derived from the intraspecific F1 hybrid obtained from a cross between Perennial and Yolo Wonder, an American bell-pepper susceptible line, with 119 DNA markers were analyzed.

TL;DR: This new Capsicum gene list includes 292 genes for morphological traits; physiological traits; sterility; and resistance to diseases, nematodes, and herbicides, which includes the 92 genes that have not been previously described.

Differentiation of race specific resistance to Phytophthora root rot and foliar blight in Capsicum annuum
TL;DR: Walker and Bosland (1999) found that different genes were responsible for the inheritance of root rot resistance as compared to foliar blight resistance and two independent dominant genes, along with a dominant allele from a third independent gene, separately control resistance to folian blight and root rot.

Inheritance of Phytophthora Root Rot and Foliar Blight Resistance in Pepper
TL;DR: Resistance was observed in both F1 populations screened for phytophthora root and foliar infection indicating dominance for resistance, and the segregation of resistance in the F 2 generations was dependent on the susceptible parent.

Expression of age-related resistance in pepper plants infected with Phytophthora capsici
TL;DR: With increasing age of pepper plants, all cultivars tested became gradually resistant to Phytophthora blight and the soil-drench method of inoculation was more reliable than the stem-inoculation method for evaluation of age-related resistance.

TL;DR: The technique was used to successfully screen peppers for PRR resistance at 14 days postemergence, and individual plants identified as resistant survived to maturity and could be used directly in plant breeding schemes.

Intraspecific variation among isolates of Phytophthora capsici from pepper and cucurbit fields in North Carolina.
TL;DR: Phytophthora capsici was isolated from seven pepper and seven cucurbit fields in North Carolina and the relative virulence of the isolates was tested on pepper, morphological characteristics of sporangia and oospores were evaluated, and mating type and growth response to temperature were determined.
