TLDR
The importance of international research collaboration in health care has been examined in this paper, and some of the challenges of global information management are outlined. But, there is little substantive information for researchers new to the global research network on how best to manage the challenges posed by international collaboration, nor ways in which to measure the effectiveness of the same.
Abstract
It has been argued that whilst globalisation brings with it significant challenges, it also provides an opportunity for unifying health care activity and that of related research practices across international boundaries. Internationalisation, often confused with globalisation, is a process that can lead to a more extensive pattern of activity and collaboration. International research collaboration in health care has intensified and is frequently regarded as an indicator of quality and a way in which to develop and disseminate scientific knowledge to newly developing countries. There is however little substantive information for researchers new to the global research network on how best to manage the challenges posed by international collaboration, nor ways in which to measure the effectiveness of the same. In this paper we begin by examining the importance of international research collaboration before outlining some of the challenges of global information management. Drawing upon our own experience of j...

Team size matters: Collaboration and scientific impact since 1900

TL;DR: An increase in the number of authors leads to an increase in impact, from the beginning of the last century onward, and that this is not due simply to self‐citations.

Evolution and convergence of the patterns of international scientific collaboration.

TL;DR: Overall, this study shows, for the first time, the evolution of the patterns of international scientific collaboration starting from initial results described by literature in the 1970s and 1990s and finds a convergence of these long-run collaboration patterns between the applied and basic sciences.

Mental Health and Well-Being of University Students: A Bibliometric Mapping of the Literature.

TL;DR: This study uses bibliometric procedures to describe and visually represent the available literature on mental health and well-being in university students in terms of the growth trajectory, productivity, social structure, intellectual structure, and conceptual structure of the field over 45 years.

International collaboration clusters in Africa

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the collaboration pattern for countries in Africa is far from universal and exhibits layers of internal clusters and external links that are explained not by monotypic global influences but by regional geography and, perhaps even more strongly, by history, culture and language.

Creativity and education: A bibliometric mapping of the research literature (1975–2019)

TL;DR: A bibliometric review of the research trends within the field of creativity in education contexts over the last 45 years using metadata extracted from the Web of Science database is presented in this article.

Measuring international research collaboration of peripheral countries: Taking the context into consideration

Ki-Wan Kim
- 14 Jan 2006 -
TL;DR: An analysis of the number of participating countries shows that multilateral collaboration has increased considerably in the last 20 years, though the proportion of international research collaboration remains stable; an interesting finding with respect to the international collaboration is shown.

Globalisation and public health

TL;DR: In assembling the terms for this glossary, the authors have attempted to demonstrate the richness of the globalisation and public health debate, and in so doing have selected some of the core terms that require definition.

Issues and challenges in international doctoral education in nursing.

TL;DR: The present article seeks to identify the issues and challenges in nursing doctoral education globally, and those encountered by doctoral program graduates in meeting the challenges of contemporary health care systems, and proposes international collaborative strategies to address a number of the challenges identified.
Journal ArticleDOI

Collaborative Community Research Consortium: A Model for HIV Prevention

TL;DR: The authors describe the CAPS model of consortium-based community collaborative research and introduce a set of papers, written by researchers and service providers, that describes collaborative research projects conducted by research institutions and CBOs and illustrates how collaboration can change both HIV prevention research and service.

Globalisation and the challenges to health systems

Julio Frenk, +1 more
- 13 Jul 2002 -
TL;DR: It is argued that, although there are many threats inherent in globalisation, improving health is a unifying activity and exchange, evidence, and empathy should characterise international activities to improve health and health care for all the world's people.
