TLDR
The unusually hot summer and drought in 1988 in parts of North America stimulated wide discussions about the cause of these events as mentioned in this paper, and some scientists and many policy makers in the U.S. Congress and Administration suggest that this weather was linked to global warming caused by a build-up of the so-called greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, methane and chlorofluorocarbons.
Abstract
The unusually hot summer and drought in 1988 in parts of North America stimulated wide discussions about the cause of these events. While most scientists now studying climate believe that the 1988 events were shortrun phenomenon, some scientists and many policy makers in the U.S. Congress and Administration suggest that this weather was linked to global warming caused by a build-up of the so-called greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, methane and chlorofluorocarbons.

World Temperature-Trend Uncertainties and Their Implications for Economic Policy

TL;DR: In this paper, three data sets on world temperature are studied, including direct measurements of world temperature over the past century yield trend estimates of.45 degrees Celsius per century with rather wide confidence intervals of (.15,.75).

Adrift on a sea of platitudes: Why we will not resolve the greenhouse issue

TL;DR: The issue of greenhouse warming has received a great deal of attention in recent years as discussed by the authors, and it has become the object of much scientific scrutiny, media coverage, and political rhetoric.

Cloud-radiative forcing and climate: results from the Earth radiation budget experiment.

TL;DR: The size of the observed net cloud forcing is about four times as large as the expected value of radiative forcing from a doubling of CO2, and small changes in the cloud-radiative forcing fields can play a significant role as a climate feedback mechanism.

Scientific Perspectives on the Greenhouse Problem

TL;DR: The first in a series of popular discussions of major public policy issues by scientists affiliated with the George C.Marshall Institute, Washington DC, this is a handbook on the issues involved with defending America against the threat of terrorist, accidental or pre-emptive Soviet missile attack as discussed by the authors.

The greenhouse effect: What government actions are needed?

TL;DR: The greenhouse effect will bring large climate changes, possibly a hostile environment, and social consequences that will range from business as usual to disaster as discussed by the authors, and the worst consequences are likely to occur to unmanaged ecosystems and to developing countries; in contrast, the industrial nations may experience only minor irritations, apart from the eventual rise in sea level.
