TLDR
In this paper , the authors explored the potential of applying the MICP technology to remediate Pb-rich water bodies and Pbcontaminated loess soil sites, and found that the Pb immobilization efficiency of above 85% is attained through PbCO3 and PB(CO3)2(OH)2 precipitation.

Feasibility study of applying electrokinetic technology coupled with enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation treatment to Cu- and Pb-contaminated loess remediation

TL;DR: In this paper , a modified EK reactor was proposed where the single and multiple EICP treatments were incorporated into a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) for the first time to resolve the raised problems and also improve the removal efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influences of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on crop growth and potentially toxic element accumulation in contaminated soils: A meta-analysis

TL;DR: In this paper , a meta-analysis of 153 studies with 3213 individual observations was conducted to evaluate the effects of AMF on the growth and PTE accumulation of five staple crops (wheat, rice, maize, soybean, and sorghum) in contaminated soils.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluating gas breakthrough pressure and gas permeability in a landfill cover layer for mitigation of hazardous gas emissions.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the gas breakthrough pressure and gas permeability in a landfill cover layer and found that the smaller the capillary tube diameter, the higher capillary force, and the more significant the effect of capillary effect.

Microbially induced calcium precipitation driven by denitrification: Performance, metabolites, and molecular mechanisms.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors explored the molecular mechanisms of nitrate-dependent MICP and the effects of Ca2+ on bacterial transcriptional regulation and metabolic response, and showed that appropriate Ca 2+ concentration (4.5 mM) can promote denitrification and the production of ATP, EPSs, and SMPs.

Immobilizing lead using loess and nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI)-amended loess: Insights from macroscopic and microscopic tests

TL;DR: In this article , the potential of applying the loess and nanoscale zerovalent iron-amended loess (nZVI-AL) to Pb immobilization was explored.

Sequential extraction procedure for the speciation of particulate trace metals

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical procedure involving sequential chemicai extractions was developed for the partitioning of particulate trace metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Fe, and Mn) into five fractions: exchangeable, bound to carbonates, binding to Fe-Mn oxides and bound to organic matter.

Microbial Carbonate Precipitation as a Soil Improvement Technique

TL;DR: In this article, a five meter sand column was treated with bacteria and reagents under conditions that were realistic for field applications, and the column was subjected to mechanical testing, which indicated a significant improvement of strength and stiffness over several meters.

The remediation of heavy metals contaminated sediment

TL;DR: This paper provides a review on the geochemical forms, affecting factors and remediation technologies of heavy metal in sediment, especially being fit for slight pollution sediment, and suggests ex situ remediation should be the hot point in future research.

Fixation and distribution of bacterial activity in sand to induce carbonate precipitation for ground reinforcement

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-phase injection procedure is proposed to fix bacteria with their enzyme activity relatively homogeneously in a sand bed, before supplying cementation reagents, where a bacterial suspension is injected into the sand body, immediately followed by a fixation fluid (i.e. a solution with high salt content).
