Internalizing symptomatology and academic achievement: Bi-directional prospective relations in adolescence

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided the first rigorous, longitudinal examination of the bi-directional, prospective relations between adolescent internalizing symptomatology and academic achievement, and found that high depression and anxiety at the beginning of a school year predicted lower GPA during that school year, and low GPA in any school year was associated with higher depression in the following school year.

TL;DR: Estimates of the lifetime prevalence of DSM-IV mental disorders with and without severe impairment, their comorbidity across broad classes of disorder, and their sociodemographic correlates are presented to provide the first prevalence data on a broad range of mental disorders in a nationally representative sample of U.S. adolescents.
