In this paper, the long-term relation of a single fibrinogen determination to initial and recurrent atherosclerotic cardiovascular events over 20 years of follow-up was examined.
Abstract
Examination of the long-term relation of a single fibrinogen determination to initial and recurrent atherosclerotic cardiovascular events over 20 years of follow-up revealed a powerful and comparably independent impact on initial events in both sexes but an influence on recurrent events only in men.

Evaluation of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in heart failure with cardiac magnetic resonance contrast-enhanced T1 mapping.

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-invasive method for quantifying diffuse myocardial fibrosis with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) was proposed, which is based on delayed contrast enhancement.

Acute-Phase Markers of Inflammation and Glomerular Structure in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that acute-phase markers of inflammation are associated with nephropathy status and GBM thickening, suggesting a role for inflammation in the pathogenesis of diabetic glomerulopathy.

Physical Activity Status and Adverse Age-Related Differences in Coagulation and Fibrinolytic Factors in Women

TL;DR: The results of the present study demonstrate that the adverse age-associated differences in plasma fibrinogen concentrations and the endogenous fibrinolytic system in sedentary healthy women are either attenuated or absent in highly physically active women.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association of γA/γ’ Fibrinogen Levels and Coronary Artery Disease

TL;DR: Evidence is presented that, in contrast to total fibrinogen levels, γA/γ’ fibr inogen levels showed no significant association with age or gender in a population of normal blood donors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of Fibrinogen on Cardiovascular Disease

TL;DR: Evaluated fibrinogen levels are higher in women and persons with other risk factors including hypertension, diabetes, cigarette smoking, obesity, elevated haematocrit value and dyslipidaemia, which adds to the multivariate risk of cardiovascular events, especially in the high risk subset of the population.

Hemostatic factors and the risk of myocardial infarction or sudden death in patients with angina pectoris. European Concerted Action on Thrombosis and Disabilities Angina Pectoris Study Group.

TL;DR: In patients with angina pectoris, the levels of fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor antigen, and t-PA antigen are independent predictors of subsequent acute coronary syndromes and characterize patients at low risk for coronary events despite increased serum cholesterol levels.

Fibrinogen as a Risk Factor for Stroke and Myocardial Infarction

TL;DR: Although causality cannot be inferred from these data, it is possible that the fibrinogen level plays an important part in the development of stroke and myocardial infarction.

Fibrinogen and risk of cardiovascular disease. The Framingham Study.

TL;DR: The impact of fibrinogen value, considered as a separate variable, on cardiovascular disease was comparable with the major risk factors, such as blood pressure, hematocrit, adiposity, cigarette smoking, and diabetes and was significantly related to these risk factors.

Fibrinogen, viscosity, and white blood cell count are major risk factors for ischemic heart disease. The Caerphilly and Speedwell collaborative heart disease studies

TL;DR: The results suggest that at least part of the effect of smoking on IHD is mediated through fibrinogen, viscosity, and white blood cell count, and these three variables significantly improve the fit of a logistic regression model containing all the main conventional risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fibrinogen as a cardiovascular risk factor: a meta-analysis and review of the literature.

TL;DR: A meta-analysis of the existing prospective epidemiologic trials, to discuss clinical findings related to fibrinogen, and to consider the causality of the association of fibr inogen and cardiovascular disease is performed.
