TLDR
In this paper, the effect on degree of randomness of a change in parameter value is investigated for some distributions including the binomial and Poisson, and the effect of such changes on informativeness is discussed.
Abstract
Majorisation is used to compare discrete distributions in terms of randomness or, equivalently, informativeness. Some properties of measures of randomness are discussed. The effect on degree of randomness of a change in parameter value is investigated for some distributions including the binomial and Poisson.

Noise modelling and evaluating learning from examples

TL;DR: The nature of noise in the model is discussed and modelled using information-theoretic ideas especially that of majorisation and it is shown that increasing noise has a detrimental effect on learning.

Continuous majorisation and randomness

TL;DR: In this article, general results on randomness in the continuous case are given and these are used to investigate the connection between randomness and parameter values in some well-known families of distributions including the normal and gamma.

Artificial Universes - Towards a Systematic Approach to Evaluation Algorithms which Learn form Examples

TL;DR: The use of information theory concepts (including the primitive notion of majorisation) to model noise in the domain and to provide measures for the universe is described, and the notions of accuracy and efficiency of an induced rule are defined.

Some majorization orderings of heterogeneity in a class of epidemics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply the theory of majorization to investigate the effects of heterogeneity in a class of epidemics, in particular the heterogeneity of the components of the contact vector of a given susceptible.

The Mathematical Theory of Communication

TL;DR: The theory of communication is extended to include a number of new factors, in particular the effect of noise in the channel, and the savings possible due to the statistical structure of the original message anddue to the nature of the final destination of the information.

A note on the measurement of randomness

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of a measure of randomness on the class of discrete probability distributions are discussed and a result concerning finiteness is obtained for a family of measures which includes the entropy function.
