TLDR
In this article, an advanced methodology in mask correlation spectrophotometry is presented, by operating the instrument with its oscillating correlation mask placed in two chosen positions, a system to two equations can be solved in terms of the unknown optical depth of the gas.

Measurements of Atmospheric Trace Gases by Long Path Differential UV/Visible Absorption Spectroscopy

TL;DR: A relatively small number of spectroscopic measurements of atmospheric trace gases have been reported in the past, using infrared or UV/visible absorption spectroscopy (Hanst 1971, Tuazon et al. as mentioned in this paper ).
Journal ArticleDOI

Remote sensing of air pollutants. A study of some atmospheric scattering effects

TL;DR: In this article, a simple radiation transfer model has been developed to investigate the effects of atmospheric scattering on the passive spectroscopic remote sensing of pollutants, and the problems of remote SO2 measurement at stack top, under a uniformly mixed layer, and under elevated plumes are addressed using the response function of a correlation spectrometer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Remote sensing of air pollutants by correlation spectroscopy--instrumental response characteristics.

TL;DR: This work is intended to review the development of the selected instrumental technique, and to alert the user about some factors which must be considered both with the gathering and during the analysis of the data collected with these types of sensors.

Remote sensing of sulphur dioxide

TL;DR: In this paper, correlation spectrometer is used to measure line integrals of concentration, or burdens (in atm-μm or ppm-m), by analysing incident radiation in the ultraviolet for absorption by sulphur dioxide.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of inhibition of foliar gas exchange by exogenous ethylene: an ultrasensitive response

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the inhibition of foliar gas exchange as a function of ethylene (C2H4) concentration in order to evaluate the potential role of stress C2H, in mediating changes in gas exchange in response to environmental stress.

Spectrophotometric determination of atmospheric sulfur dioxide.

TL;DR: Two improved pararosaniline methods developed for the spectrophotometric determination of sulfur dioxide in ambient air yield greater sensitivity, greater reproducibility, and adherence to Beer's law throughout a greater working range than the West and Gaeke method.
Journal ArticleDOI

The applications of optical correlation techniques to the remote sensing of SO2 plumes using sky light

TL;DR: A correlation spectrometer for the passive remote sensing of sulphur dioxide in stack plumes is described and the theoretical response of the sensor is developed including the effect of atmospheric scattering.

Electro-optical sensing of environmental pollutants

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed optical correlation techniques which enhance the sensitivity of conventional absorption spectroscopy by at least an order of magnitude and which provide a simple direct readout of gas concentration.
