Clinical intervention studies have demonstrated the therapeutic importance of correcting the hypercholesterolemia and the initial step in lowering cholesterol is a special diet low in fat and saturated fatty acids and rich in crude fibers.Abstract:
The major cause of death in the Western countries is coronary artery disease. A primary risk factor is hypercholesterolelmia, which contributes to hardening of the arteries. In humans, 50% or more of the total cholesterol is derived from de novo synthesis (Rosenfeld, 1989; Steinberg et al., 1989). Clinical intervention studies have demonstrated the therapeutic importance of correcting the hypercholesterolemia. The initial step in lowering cholesterol is a special diet low in fat and saturated fatty acids and rich in crude fibers.read more

Medicinal mushrooms as a source of antitumor and immunomodulating polysaccharides.
TL;DR: The present review analyzes the pecularities of polysaccharides derived from fruiting bodies and cultured mycelium in selected examples of medicinal mushrooms and concludes that high molecular weight glucans appear to be more effective than those of low molecular weight.
Journal ArticleDOI
The pharmacological potential of mushrooms.
TL;DR: This review describes pharmacologically active compounds from mushrooms with antimicrobial, antiviral, antitumor, antiallergic, immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, antiatherogenic, hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective and central activities.

Biosynthesis of Au, Ag and Au-Ag nanoparticles using edible mushroom extract.
TL;DR: This report is a report on extracellular synthesis method for the preparation of Au, Ag and Au-Ag nanoparticles in water, using the extract of Volvariella volvacea, a naturally occurring edible mushroom, as reducing and protecting agents.
