An engineering approach for a T-joint fillet welding simulation using simplified material properties

TL;DR: In this article, a three-dimensional numerical simulation of a T-joint fillet welding of two plates is performed using simplified material properties, and the simulation results are concluded that, compared with the reference case that uses the true properties of the chosen material S355JR, the first case of simplification is more suitable for the prediction of plate deflections, while the second case is more favorable for the assessment of thermal fields, heat-affected zones, residual stress fields and stress intensity factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling flux chemistry for submerged arc weldments of high-strength low-alloy steel

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical and mechanical properties of the welded joint are greatly affected by flux composition, and the resulting chemical compositions of C, Si, Mn, P and S in the weld metal have been studied using...
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of failure modes for different welding processes of AISI/SAE 304 stainless steels

TL;DR: In this paper, the failure mechanisms associated with their mechanical and micro-structural properties were compared by means of a fractographic study, in which the characteristic morphologies of each one (nucleation, propagation, and final fracture) were identified by using optical stereoscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

High temperature abrasion resistance of differently welded structural steels

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of heat input during welding and the resulting microstructure on the high temperature abrasion resistance was evaluated within a high temperature three-body ABRasion test and a hot hardness test rig.
Journal ArticleDOI

A-TIG welding process for enhanced-penetration in Duplex stainless-steel: effect of activated fluxes

TL;DR: Weldability of duplex stainless steel (DSSBS) is an important issue in fabrication of pipes at petrochemical industries as discussed by the authors, and the well-established tungsten inert gas welding process has the limi...
