Multi-Objective Optimization of Maintenance, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Decision Making Considering Safety

TL;DR: In this article , a multi-objective optimization approach is proposed to identify the optimal pavement maintenance, rehabilitation, and reconstruction (MRR) plans that utilize a semi-Markov international roughness index deterioration model developed based on real pavement condition inspection data from Pennsylvania between 2006 and 2018.
Journal ArticleDOI

World highways pavement management system: an overview

TL;DR: The pavement management system (PMS) as mentioned in this paper is a precise and systematized arrangement of defined procedures for collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and reporting pavement data that enables decision-makers to identify the most suitable arrangements and strategies for maintaining the pavements in the functional order for a given specific period at the least profitable cost.

Optimization by Simulated Annealing

TL;DR: There is a deep and useful connection between statistical mechanics and multivariate or combinatorial optimization (finding the minimum of a given function depending on many parameters), and a detailed analogy with annealing in solids provides a framework for optimization of very large and complex systems.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Particle swarm optimization

TL;DR: A concept for the optimization of nonlinear functions using particle swarm methodology is introduced, and the evolution of several paradigms is outlined, and an implementation of one of the paradigm is discussed.

Ant system: optimization by a colony of cooperating agents

TL;DR: It is shown how the ant system (AS) can be applied to other optimization problems like the asymmetric traveling salesman, the quadratic assignment and the job-shop scheduling, and the salient characteristics-global data structure revision, distributed communication and probabilistic transitions of the AS.

A New Heuristic Optimization Algorithm: Harmony Search

TL;DR: A new heuristic algorithm, mimicking the improvisation of music players, has been developed and named Harmony Search (HS), which is illustrated with a traveling salesman problem (TSP), a specific academic optimization problem, and a least-cost pipe network design problem.

A Fast Elitist Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm for Multi-objective Optimisation: NSGA-II

TL;DR: Simulation results on five difficult test problems show that the proposed NSGA-II, in most problems, is able to find much better spread of solutions and better convergence near the true Pareto-optimal front compared to PAES and SPEA--two other elitist multi-objective EAs which pay special attention towards creating a diverse Paretimal front.
