Journal ArticleDOI
Stability of Multiply Twinned Particles
TL;DR: In this article, a theory is developed which allows one to discuss the stability of multiply-twinned particles and to calculate critical sizes for stable and quasi-stable states, and the critical sizes r i w *, r i t 0 and r d t 0 are formulated as functions of the specific surface energy γ h k l, the twin boundary energy θ t, the elastic strain energy W and the adhesive energy to the substrate.

The energetics and structure of nickel clusters: Size dependence
Charles L. Cleveland,Uzi Landman +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the energy properties of nickel clusters over a broad size range and found that icosahedral clusters are favored for the smallest cluster sizes and that Marks' decahedra are favorable for intermediate sizes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genesis of presolar diamonds: Comparative high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study of meteoritic and terrestrial nano-diamonds
Tyrone L. Daulton,Tyrone L. Daulton,Don D. Eisenhour,Thomas J. Bernatowicz,Roy S. Lewis,Peter R. Buseck +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the microstructures of presolar diamond crystallites were compared to those of (terrestrial) synthesized nano-diamonds using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Epitaxial Growth of Metals on Rocksalt Faces Cleaved in Vacuum. II. Orientation and Structure of Gold Particles Formed in Ultrahigh Vacuum
TL;DR: A multiply twinned particle model is proposed by the present author, and the appearance of the 111 spots and the dark field image contrasts can satisfactorily be explained by this model.

An Electron Microscope Study on Fine Metal Particles Prepared by Evaporation in Argon Gas at Low Pressure
TL;DR: In this article, fine particles of various metals (Mg, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ag, Cd, Sn, Au, Pb and Bi) were prepared by evaporation in argon gas at low pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initial Stage of Epitaxial Growth of Evaporated Gold Films on Sodium Chloride
Kazuhiro Mihama,Yukio Yasuda +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the initial stage of the formation of evaporated gold films from 0.5 A to 100 A in mean thickness on cleavage surfaces of sodium chloride was studied by means of a transmission electron microscope.
