Noradrenergic modulation of somatosensory cortical neuronal responses to iontophoretically applied putative neurotransmitters.

TLDR
The interaction of norepinephrine applied iontophoretically in small doses with the responsiveness of somatosensory cortical neurons to the putative neurotransmitter substances acetylcholine and gamma-aminobutyric acid is examined to enhance the efficacy of postsynaptically acting neurotransmitters.

An Integrative Theory of Locus Coeruleus-Norepinephrine Function: Adaptive Gain and Optimal Performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine (LC-NE) system plays a more complex and specific role in the control of behavior than investigators previously thought.

Stress signalling pathways that impair prefrontal cortex structure and function

TL;DR: Recent research has provided clues as to why genetic or environmental insults that disinhibit stress signalling pathways can lead to symptoms of profound prefrontal cortical dysfunction in mental illness.

The locus coeruleus-noradrenergic system: modulation of behavioral state and state-dependent cognitive processes.

TL;DR: It is suggested that dysregulation of locus coeruleus-noradrenergic neurotransmission may contribute to cognitive and/or arousal dysfunction associated with a variety of psychiatric disorders, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, sleep and arousal disorders, as well as certain affective Disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder.

Relationships between Pupil Diameter and Neuronal Activity in the Locus Coeruleus, Colliculi, and Cingulate Cortex.

TL;DR: It is shown that LC activation reliably anticipates changes in pupil diameter that either fluctuate naturally or are driven by external events during near fixation, as in many psychophysical tasks.

Ascending Monoamine Neurons to the Telencephalon and Diencephalon

TL;DR: A number of ascending monoamine neuron systems from the lower brain stem are demonstrated and mapped out by studying the anterograde and retrograde changes that occur in these neurons after various types of brain lesions.

Organization of motor and somatosensory neocortex in the albino rat

TL;DR: The extent and organization of motor (MsI) and somatosensory (SmI) cortex in the rat were investigated using intracortical stimulation with semi-microelectrodes and single- or multiple-unit recording techniques to find overlap was essentially complete for the hindlimb, but only partial for the forelimb.

Microelectrode delineation of fine grain somatotopic organization of (SmI) cerebral neocortex in albino rat.

TL;DR: Microelectrode recording, systematic mapping, and cytoarchitectural techniques were combined in the present study to determine fine details in the patterns of somatic sensory projections from mystacial vibrissae, and other body regions, to SmI of the rat.

The mechanism of excitation by acetylcholine in the cerebral cortex

TL;DR: The muscarinic depolarizing action of ACh on cortical neurones is associated with an increase in membrane resistance (mean ΔV/ΔR = 3·16 mV/MΩ).

The action of γ-Aminobutyric acid on cortical neurones

TL;DR: It is concluded that GABA could be the main cortical inhibitory transmitter in cats under pentobarbitone anaesthesia because the reversal potentials for the action of GABA and the IPSP are approximately similar.
