Nuclear DNA content and chromosome numbers in the myxomycete Physarum polycephalum.
TLDR
An improved method is described for making chromosome spreads of the plasmodium of the myxomycete, Physarum polycephalum, which consists of isolating metaphase nuclei, spreading the chromosomes with hot lactic acid, and staining with acetic-orcein.About:

The mitotic oscillator in Physarum polycephalum
Stuart A. Kauffman,John J. Wille +1 more
TL;DR: Evidence that mitosis in the syncytial plasmodium of Physarum polycephalum is controlled by a continuous biochemical oscillation is reported and critical macroscopic properties of cells such as phase resetting after perturbations, or contact inhibition of growth and its malignant failure, may be due to dynamic properties of mitotic oscillators and their coupling between cells.

Methods for the isolation and analysis of plasmodial mutants in Physarum polycephalum.
D. J. Cooke,Jennifer Dee +1 more
TL;DR: The derivation from the Colonia strain C50 of a strain CL (Colonia Leicester) which produces plasmodia in clones with high efficiency and which completes the life cycle reliably and repeatedly in single clones is reported.

Plasmodium formation without change in nuclear DNA content in Physarum polycephalum
D. J. Cooke,Jennifer Dee +1 more
TL;DR: Genetic evidence is presented which indicates that the Colonia strain CL, when crossed with heterothallic strains, also yields recombinant progeny and thus undergoes nuclear fusion and meiosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of genome size by DNA doublings.
Arnold H. Sparrow,Anne F. Nauman +1 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate the apparent existence of an exponential periodicity over eight orders of magnitude, leading the authors to suggest an evolutionary continuity of doublings of a basic ancestral genome (of about 300 nucleotides), these doubling being independent of both chromosome number and ploidy level.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent
TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.

THE USE OF LEAD CITRATE AT HIGH pH AS AN ELECTRON-OPAQUE STAIN IN ELECTRON MICROSCOPY
TL;DR: The stain reported here differs from previous alkaline lead stains in that the chelating agent, citrate, is in sufficient excess to sequester all lead present, and is less likely to contaminate sections.

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid
TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.
