Numerical prediction of flow fields in baffled stirred vessels: A comparison of alternative modelling approaches
TLDR
In this article, numerical simulations of the flow field in baffled mixing tanks, based on three alternative methods, are presented and discussed, where the impeller is not explicitly simulated, and its effects are modelled by imposing suitable, empirically derived, boundary conditions to the external flow.About:

A General Review of the Current Development of Mechanically Agitated Vessels
TL;DR: In this review, the current state in this field has been presented and it shows that advanced computational fluid dynamic techniques for multiphase flow analysis with reactions and modern experimental techniques can be used with success to analyse in detail mixing features in liquid-liquid, gas- liquid, solid-liquid and in more than two-phase flows.

Review of atrazine sampling by polar organic chemical integrative samplers and Chemcatcher
Kees Booij,Sunmao Chen +1 more
TL;DR: An evaluation of reported sampler configurations showed that standardization of sampler design can be improved: for POCIS with respect to surface area and sorbent mass, and for Chemcatcher withrespect to housing design, and recommendations are made for standardized sampler layout and documentation of flow conditions in calibration studies.

Inter-compartment interaction in multi-impeller mixing : Part I. Experiments and multiple reference frame CFD
TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the flow profile in between two Rushton impellers in a stirred tank and show that macro-instabilities and a peak in turbulent kinetic energy in the region of convergent flow may promote inter-compartment mass exchange.

CFD modeling of gas entrainment in stirred tank systems
TL;DR: In this article, two types of impellers (DT, PBTD) were simulated to study the phenomenon of gas entrainment in stirred tank systems, and the VOF method was used as surface tracking technique along with LES model.

Local gas holdup simulation and validation of industrial-scale aerated bioreactors
TL;DR: In this paper, a Lagrangian approach was used to model the bubble movements in large-scale bioreactors using the Boltzmannian approach and a two-way coupling between the disperse and continuous phases.
