Numerical prediction of flow fields in baffled stirred vessels: A comparison of alternative modelling approaches

TLDR
In this article, numerical simulations of the flow field in baffled mixing tanks, based on three alternative methods, are presented and discussed, where the impeller is not explicitly simulated, and its effects are modelled by imposing suitable, empirically derived, boundary conditions to the external flow.

Measurement of phase holdups in liquid-liquid-solid three-phase stirred tanks and CFD simulation

TL;DR: In this article, a Eulerian-Eulerian three-fluid model is established for the prediction of phase distribution of two dispersed phases in the agitated liquid-liquid-solid dispersion system.

Intensification of mixing of shear-thinning fluids possessing yield stress with the coaxial mixers composed of two different central impellers and an anchor

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of different configurations of coaxial mixers composed of a wall scraping anchor impeller in combination with two different or identical central high speed impellers in the agitation of the shear-thinning fluids with yield stress (e.g. xanthan gum solution) was investigated.

Using computational fluid dynamics modeling and ultrasonic doppler velocimetry to study pulp suspension mixing

TL;DR: The validated CFD model provided useful information regarding the mixing time and the formation of the cavern around the impeller in the mixing of pulp suspension, and the size of cavern predicted by theCFD model was in good agreement with that calculated using Solomon's model.

CFD simulation of gas-liquid flow in stirred tanks: Effect of drag models

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of four different drag models (DBS-Local, DBS-Global, Brucato, Schiller-Naumann) in which the DBS model was originally developed for bubble columns are compared with experiments.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on Gas Holdup and Flooding in an Aerated Stirred Tank with Rushton Impeller

TL;DR: In this article, the spatial distribution of gas holdup in a stirred tank with a Rushton impeller and i.d. of 380 mm was measured by the fiber optic technique to show the different gas−liquid flow patterns including flooding.
