Numerical prediction of flow fields in baffled stirred vessels: A comparison of alternative modelling approaches

TLDR
In this article, numerical simulations of the flow field in baffled mixing tanks, based on three alternative methods, are presented and discussed, where the impeller is not explicitly simulated, and its effects are modelled by imposing suitable, empirically derived, boundary conditions to the external flow.

Numerical simulations of the reactive mixing in a commercially operated stirred ethoxylation reactor

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique to describe the mixing and the chemical reactions in commercially operated stirred ethoxylation reactors, and the results showed that the CFD process model was capable of predicting the reaction behavior and would be useful for exploration of any opportunity for increasing the ethoxYLation capacity in the industrial operations.

Numerical simulation of a pitched‐blade turbine stirred tank with mirror fluid method

TL;DR: Yang and Mao as discussed by the authors combined the mirror fluid method with local grid refinement to deal with the numerical simulation of turbulent flow in a pitched-blade turbine turbine stirred tank, and achieved satisfying agreement between their predictions and the reported experimental data.

Computational fluid dynamics modelling of complex fluid flow in stirred vessels

Li Liu
TL;DR: The capability of CFD modelling of different mixing features of non-Newtonian fluids in stirred vessels are verified by comparing with experimental data obtained from PIV, PEPT, and planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) measurements.
