We describe two new experiments which demonstrate laser-induced inelastic collisions. Energy was stored in the Sr $5p^{1}P^{o}$ state and selectively transferred both to the Ca $4{p}^{2}^{1}S$ and $5d^{1}D$ states. The collision cross sections maximized at the interatomic wavelengths of 4977 and 4711 \AA{}, respectively, and had a half-power width of about 14 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$.read more

Collision Experiments with Laser Excited Atoms in Crossed Beams
Ingolf V. Hertel,W. Stoll +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, collision experiments using laser excited atoms in crossed beams are discussed, where the laser properties allow selecting the state into which the atom is excited, specific fine-and hyperfine-structure states may be chosen as well as a particular combination of sub-states.

TL;DR: In this article, mode selective approaches to controlling reactions which are based upon one photon absorption of a fast and/or shaped laser pulses creating localized excitation are formally examined and found deficient.

Profiles of line wings and rainbow satellites associated with optical and radiative collisions
Józef Szudy,William E. Baylis +1 more
TL;DR: The principles and applications of the quasimolecular treatment of optical and radiative collisions are discussed in this paper, where the main attention is focused on the uniform approximation to the unified Franck-Condon (UFC) line shape of near and far-wings and of rainbow satellites associated with pressure-broadened spectral lines.
