TLDR
In phase contrast microscopy, living PGCs in the blood and from the primitive gonad of 3-day embryos in parts of the examinations were observed to change their shape in somewhat amoeboid fashion, suggesting their capability for locomotion as a possible mechanism of the migration of P GCs in vivo.

Germline transmission of genetically modified primordial germ cells.

TL;DR: It is shown that chicken PGCs can be isolated, cultured and genetically modified while maintaining their commitment to the germ line, and that they can be induced in vitro to differentiate into embryonic germ cells that contribute to somatic tissues.

Production of germline chimeric chickens, with high transmission rate of donor‐derived gametes, produced by transfer of primordial germ cells

TL;DR: The technique for primordial germ cell transfer employed in this experiment is simple to perform and resulted in the efficient production of germline chimeras with high transmission rates of donor‐derived gametes, suggesting this system provides a powerful tool for avian embryo manipulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The origin, migration and fine morphology of human primordial germ cells

TL;DR: Human primordial germ cells (PGCs) were observed ultrastructurally in stages from their endodermal to gonadal locations and often had pseudopodia in PGCs in the separation and migration stages, suggesting their amoeboid movement in vivo.

A light- and electron-microscopic study on the migration of primordial germ cells in the teleost, Oryzias latipes

TL;DR: The primordial germ cells of Oryzias latipes in migration to the gonadal anlage revealed that they are mitotically dormant during the migratory period, which provides the first morphological indication of sex differentiation in this species of fish.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterisation and germline transmission of cultured avian primordial germ cells

TL;DR: Primary PGC lines will form the basis of an alternative technique for the preservation of avian germplasm and will be a valuable tool for transgenic technology, with both research and industrial applications.

A series of normal stages in the development of the chick embryo

TL;DR: The preparation of a series of normal stages of the chick embryo does not need justification at a time when chick ernbryos are not only widely used in descriptive and experimental embryology but are proving to be increasingly valuable in medical research, as in work on viruses and cancer.
