TLDR
In this paper, a distributed system with mechanisms for automatic selection of master and slave clocks to be used for clock synchronization is presented, which includes a set of nodes (20-24) including a first node and a second node, each having a local clock (30-34) and information (40-44) pertaining to the local clock.Abstract:
A distributed system with mechanisms for automatic selection of master and slave clocks to be used for clock synchronization. The distributed system includes a set of nodes (20-24), including a first node and a second node, each having a local clock (30-34) and a set of information (40-44) pertaining to the local clock (30-34). The first node transfers a packet (50) on a communication link (12) that carries the information (52). The second node receives the packet (50) on the communication link (12) and determines whether the local clock of the second node is a master clock that synchronizes a time value in the local clock of the first node or a slave clock that synchronizes to a time value from the local clock in the first node by comparing the information (52)in the packet (50)to the information pertaining to the local clock in the second node. Automatic selection of master and slave clocks in boundary nodes (92) is provided along with mechanisms for determining clock synchronization delays and mechanisms for reporting jitter associated with communication devices (14).read more

Synchronization and calibration of clocks for a medical device and calibrated clock
TL;DR: In this article, the synchronization and calibration of a plurality of clocks in a medical device system that may provide treatment to a patient with a nervous system disorder is discussed, where a drift time that is indicative of a time difference between the first clock and the second clock is determined.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method for synchronizing a communications cycle and a communications node in a network node consisting of devices for receiving a desired value for a time base of a communication cycle, devices for determining a system deviation between the desired value and an actual value of the time base, and a device for generating a manipulated variable for correcting the time based on the system deviation.

Method for recognizing events and synchronizing clocks
John C. Eidson,Joseph A Dara-Abrams,Stanley P Woods,Leonard S. Cutler,Robin P. Giffard,James L. Johnson +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, each node contains a time packet detector (TPD) that detects and recognizes timing data packets and produces a recognition signal, which is used to cause an action in the detecting node, in particular the node may contain a time service block (TSB) containing a local clock that may be used to record the time of the recognition signal.

Method and apparatus for gap count determination
TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for determining a gap count for a serial bus network (100) is described, and a round-trip delay time for transmitting a packet from a first leaf node to a second leaf node and back over a communication path between the nodes for each pair of leaf nodes (302) in the network is calculated.

A method and a system for synchronizing clocks in a bus type local network
TL;DR: In this article, a method of synchronizing clocks contained in a local network of bus type, such as Ethernet and a system of synchronized clocks is presented. But the clock states of the read clocks are compared with the received master clock state and the clock stats of the slave nodes are corrected in dependence on the outcome of the comparison.

Clock synchronization algorithm for address independent networks
TL;DR: In this article, a distributed algorithm for clock synchronization in address independent networks such as token rings and token busses is described, in which each node sends out a message to all the other nodes in the network when its timer times out to tell its time.
