Partial coverage of rectangular plates by unconstrained layer damping treatments

TLDR
In this paper, the effects of partial application on the modal frequencies, loss factors and mode shapes are discussed, and specific recommendations are made for the near-optimum distribution of the damping material on the panel surface which is effective for many modes of panel response.

Newtonian and Variational Formulations of the Dynamics of Plates with Active Constrained Layer Damping Treatments

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present Newtonian and variational formulations of the dynamics of laminated plates treated fully with active constrained layer damping (ACLD) and derive the governing equations of the plate/ACLD system to describe the interaction between the dynamic dynamics of the plates, the viscoelastic damping layer and the active piezoelectric constraining layers.

The optimum use of unconstrained layer damping treatments.

D J Mead, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of concentrating the treatment in the regions of highest bending moment in order to use all the material more effectively was investigated, and three methods of analysis were presented, two of them being approximate but relatively rapid in use.
