Partial coverage of rectangular plates by unconstrained layer damping treatments

TLDR
In this paper, the effects of partial application on the modal frequencies, loss factors and mode shapes are discussed, and specific recommendations are made for the near-optimum distribution of the damping material on the panel surface which is effective for many modes of panel response.

On the formation of complex modes in non-proportionally damped systems

TL;DR: In this article, the difference between a complex mode and a real normal mode is represented by the summation of patterns that propagate from the boundaries, and the governing equation for this phenomenon is expressed by Snell's law.

Frequency-based dynamic topology optimization methodology for improved door closing sound quality

TL;DR: Solid isotropic material with penalization topology optimization method is applied to determine the optimum material layout for within a given volume constraint on a front door of a typical vehicle to improve door closing sound quality and other metrics.

Study on structural damping of aluminium using multi-layered and jointed construction

TL;DR: In this paper, the mechanism of damping and its theoretical evaluation for layered aluminium cantilever structures jointed with a number of equispaced connecting bolts under an equal tightening torque have been considered.

Experimental study and numerical simulation of the behaviour of viscoelastic materials to reduce the vibrations on board ships

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a list of figures and tables for the first time, with a focus on the relationship between figures and their relations with tables. ___________________________________________

Response of plates with unconstrained layer damping treatment to random acoustic excitation, part I: Damping and frequency evaluations

TL;DR: In this article, a complete understanding of the various modes of vibration and the modal damping associated with each mode is required for theoretical evaluation of the response of a structure under random acoustic excitation.

The Damping Effects of Viscoelastic Materials: Part 2—Transverse Vibrations of Plates With Viscoelastic Coatings

TL;DR: Elastic metal thin plates transverse resonant free vibrations, analyzing viscoelastic coatings damping effects as discussed by the authors, were used to analyze the damping effect of thin plate thinning.

The optimum use of unconstrained layer damping treatments.

D J Mead, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of concentrating the treatment in the regions of highest bending moment in order to use all the material more effectively was investigated, and three methods of analysis were presented, two of them being approximate but relatively rapid in use.
