Pb diffusion in monazite: a combined RBS/SIMS study

TLDR
In this paper, Pb diffusion in both synthetic (CePO4) and natural monazites run under dry, 1-atm conditions is reported. And the Arrhenius relation for in-diffusion experiments on synthetic monazite is given by: D=0.94 exp (−592±39 kJ mol −1 /RT) m 2 s −1

Diffusion of 40Ar in muscovite

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical model of episodic loss assuming the presence of multiple diffusion domains yields excellent fits between synthetic and actual degassing spectra, and they used this model to isolate 40Ar∗ loss from the grains that remained intact during hydrothermal treatment at 10kbar permitting calculation of diffusion coefficients in the temperature range 730-600 ˚C.

Thermobarometric modelling of zircon and monazite growth in melt-bearing systems: examples using model metapelitic and metapsammitic granulites

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used phase diagram calculations to constrain the dissolution and growth behavior of zircon and monazite with respect to evolving pressure, temperature and silicate mineral assemblages in high-grade, melt-bearing, metasedimentary rocks.

Discovery of sapphirine-bearing Mg–Al granulites in the North China Craton: Implications for Paleoproterozoic ultrahigh temperature metamorphism

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the first time the occurrence of Mg-Al granulites within the khondalite belt of the North China Craton and provided robust evidence for extreme crustal metamorphism at ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) conditions in this region.
Journal ArticleDOI

Laser-ablation split-stream ICP petrochronology

TL;DR: In this paper, a laser-ablation split-stream (LASS) analysis for petrochronology is presented, using dual multi-collector-single collector inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Fluid-mediated partial alteration in monazite: the role of coupled dissolution–reprecipitation in element redistribution and mass transfer

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that ThSiO4-enriched textures are similar to those commonly seen in natural examples of metasomatised monazite in both magmatic and metamorphic rocks.

The mathematics of diffusion

John Crank
TL;DR: Though it incorporates much new material, this new edition preserves the general character of the book in providing a collection of solutions of the equations of diffusion and describing how these solutions may be obtained.

Closure temperature in cooling geochronological and petrological systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a good approximation is obtained by relating τ to the slope of the cooling curve at the closure temperature of a geochronological system, which is defined as its temperature at the time corresponding to its apparent age.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pb diffusion in zircon

TL;DR: Watson et al. as mentioned in this paper measured chemical diffusion of Ti under anhydrous conditions at 1-atm and under fluid-present elevated pressure (1.1-1.2 GPa) conditions in natural zircon.

U–Pb dating of monazite and its application to geological problems

TL;DR: Monazite is an underutilized mineral in U-Pb geochronological studies of crustal rocks and occurs as an accessory mineral in a wide variety of rocks, including granite, pegmatite, felsic volcanic a...

Alpha-decay event damage in zircon

TL;DR: In this article, a suite of natural zircon samples from Sri Lanka (0.06 xl0r5 to 6.3 x l0rs a-decay events/mg) were used to study the damage accumulation process.
