In this article, the effects of load, frequency, line length, and distribution transformers on the performance of a power line communication (PLC) system are investigated. And the properties of home appliances used in an average Turkish household are experimentally determined.
Abstract
Power line communication (PLC) is a communications method where signals are carried across already existing power lines, rather than through other mediums such as optical fibres or radio waves. PLC has been a very important interdiscipline topic for power, communications, industrial and automation engineers and researchers since 1980s. Designing and planning optimized or standard PLC systems require information and data regarding signal attenuations, load variations and communication performance for various locations of the world which have different power networks. In this study, PLC system is modeled by ABCD matrix and simulated via electronics workbench. In order to obtain data from Turkey's power lines, signal measurements at the frequencies of 50-200 KHz are carried out. The effects of load, frequency, line length, and the distribution transformers are examined. The properties of home appliances used in an average Turkish household are experimentally determined. System performance in terms of the bit error probability is calculated for FSK modulation.

Performance of BFSK over a PLC channel corrupted with background Nakagami noise

TL;DR: This paper evaluated bit error rate (BER) of coherent and non-coherent binary FSK, when corrupted with background Nakagami noise, and found that the noise parameter m has a marked influence on the BER performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of power lines for high bit rate applications is studied. But, the authors focus on the power line communication, which is originally devised to transmit electric power from a small number of sources to a large number of sinks, and the first data transmission were primarily done only to protect sections of the power distribution system in case of faults.

Noise on Residential Power Distribution Circuits

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present electromagnetic noise measurements on power distribution circuits in the frequency range of 5-100 kHz, which is due primarily to appliances such as universal motors, light dimmers, television receivers, and certain switching power supplies located on the secondary side of the distribution transformer.
