Prepregnancy body mass index and pregnancy weight gain: associations with preterm delivery

Reads0

TLDR
Low weight gain in pregnancy was associated with increased risk of preterm delivery, particularly if women were underweight or of average weight before pregnancy, and the magnitude of risk varied according to a woman's prepregnancy BMI.

National regional and worldwide estimates of preterm birth rates in the year 2010 with time trends since 1990 for selected countries: a systematic analysis and implications.

TL;DR: Worldwide, regional, and national estimates of preterm birth rates for 184 countries in 2010 with time trends for selected countries are reported, and a quantitative assessment of the uncertainty surrounding these estimates is provided.

Births: final data for 2005.

TL;DR: The cesarean delivery rate climbed to more than 30 percent of all births, another all-time high; the twin birth rate was unchanged and the rate of triplet and higher order multiple births declined for the 7th consecutive year.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recombinant human leptin in women with hypothalamic amenorrhea.

TL;DR: Luteinizing hormone (LH) pulsatility, body weight, ovarian variables, and hormone levels did not change significantly over time in the controls and during a one-month control period before recombinant leptin therapy in the treated subjects.

Births: final data for 2004.

TL;DR: The cesarean delivery rate jumped 6 percent to another all-time high, whereas the rate of vaginal birth after previous cesAREan fell by 13 percent, and preterm and low birthweight rates continued their steady rise.

Births: final data for 2003.

TL;DR: The twinning rate increased, but the rate of triplet and higher order multiple births was essentially stable, and key measures of birth outcome-the percentages of preterm and low birthweight births-rose.

A united states national reference for fetal growth

TL;DR: The findings indicate that the prevalence of fetal growth restriction (FGR) will vary markedly, depending on the fetal growth curve used, and many previously published fetal growth curves no longer provide an up-to-date reference for describing the distribution of birth weight by gestational age.

Body weight, body mass index, and incident symptomatic osteoarthritis of the hand, hip, and knee.

TL;DR: It is found that body weight was a predictor of incident osteoarthritis of the hand, hip, and knee and the results suggest that obesity is associated with the development of incident arthritis at all joints studied.

Anemia vs iron deficiency: increased risk of preterm delivery in a prospective study.

TL;DR: Using criteria from the Centers for Disease Control, anemia and iron-deficiency anemia (anemia with serum ferritin concentrations less than 12 micrograms/L) were assessed in greater than 800 inner-city gravidas at entry to prenatal care.

The validity of gestational age estimation by menstrual dating in term, preterm, and postterm gestations.

TL;DR: The positive predictive values of the LNMP GA estimates decreased dramatically from term to preterm to postterm, and the systematic errors in menstrual GA estimates have profound implications for unnecessary induction, dysfunctional labor and cesarean section, and resultant neonatal and maternal morbidity.
