TLDR
In this article, it was demonstrated that the stability of polymer-modified bitumens depends not only on the difference in density and viscosity between bitumen and polymer but also on bitumen structure.About:

Polymer modification of bitumen : Advances and challenges
TL;DR: In this article, the history of bitumen polymer modification for road construction has been reviewed in the field of road construction during the last 40 years and the challenges and advances in the last decade.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of the fundamentals of polymer-modified asphalts: Asphalt/polymer interactions and principles of compatibility
TL;DR: The chemical, physical, and processing solutions suggested in the scientific and patent literature to improve storage stability are extensively discussed, with particular attention to an emerging class of asphalt binders in which the technologies of polymer-modified asphalts and polymer nanocomposites are combined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphology, rheology, and physical properties of polymer-modified asphalt binders
TL;DR: In this article, a review on the techniques used to overcome/mitigate the shortcomings of conventional polymer-modified asphalt binders is provided, and a review of the effects of various types of polymers used in asphalt industry and their effects on the rheological, morphological, physical and mechanical properties of polymer modified asphalt binder are also discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relation between polymer architecture and nonlinear viscoelastic behavior of modified asphalts
TL;DR: The use of polymer modified asphalts for waterproofing and in road pavement has been continually increasing worldwide, because a relatively small quantity of added polymer can significantly enhance performance and durability as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asphalt modification with different polyethylene-based polymers
TL;DR: In this article, several polyethylene copolymers were used to modify a 70/100 penetration grade asphalt from vacuum distillation and morphological and storage stability analyses showed that, in all cases, the obtained materials were strongly biphasic and tended to separate into polymer-rich and asphalt-rich phases.

Improving the ageing resistance of straight-run bitumens by addition of phosphorus compounds
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of small quantities of phosphoric or polyphosphoric acid and other phosphorus compounds on the physical and chemical characteristics of straight-run (distillation) bitumens was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidation of a bitumen
TL;DR: In this paper, it is suggested that one of the main factors influencing the solubility of the asphaltenes is incorporation of oxygen groups, e.g. hydroxyl, into the asphtenes, and consequent changes in polarity sufficient to influence asphalte deposition.
