Abstract
A method is presented for classifying each pixel of a textured image, and thus for segmenting the scene. The "texture energy" approach requires only a few convolutions with small (typically 5x5) integer coefficient masks, followed by a moving-window absolute average operation. Normalization by the local mean and standard deviation eliminates the need for histogram equalization. Rotation-invariance can also be achieved by using averages of the texture energy features. The convolution masks are separable, and can be implemented with 1-dimensional (vertical and horizontal) or multipass 3x3 convolutions. Special techniques permit rapid processing on general-purpose digital computers.

Reliability of MRI tumor size measurements for minimal invasive treatment selection in small breast cancers

TL;DR: Size measurements of small breast cancers on breast MRI are within 5 mm of pathological size in 88% of patients, Nevertheless, underestimation cannot be adequately predicted, particularly for grade 2 and grade 3 tumors, which may hinder patient selection for minimal invasive therapy.

Diagnosis of the Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Images

TL;DR: The proposed technique can detect the volume of aorta in MRI images using a new external energy for snakes model, calculated from Law’s texture, which can increase the capture range of snakes model efficiently more than the old external energy of snakes models.

An image patch matching method based on multi-feature fusion

TL;DR: A novel matching method called multi-feature fusion is proposed, which takes full advantage of geometric, gray, color and texture features and can effectively complete the matching task of image patch.

Fast fractal feature extraction for texture segmentation using wavelets

TL;DR: The 1D Haar transform fractal estimation algorithm is used to calculate the local fractal dimension estimates of 2D texture data and a new algorithm is provided which provides directed fractaldimension estimates which are used as features for texture segmentation.

Textural Features for Image Classification

TL;DR: These results indicate that the easily computable textural features based on gray-tone spatial dependancies probably have a general applicability for a wide variety of image-classification applications.

Textured Image Segmentation

TL;DR: In this article, texture energy is measured by filtering with small masks, typically 5x5, then with a moving-window average of the absolute image values, leading to a simple class of texture energy transforms, which perform better than any of the preceding methods.
