TLDR
The IBES (Indirect Bioleaching with Effect Separation) process improves the kinetics of the bio-leaching by means of a physical separation of the chemical and biological effects involved in what is called the indirect contact mechanism as mentioned in this paper.

Journal ArticleDOI

Review of gold extraction from ores

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the nature of Australian gold production and the hydrometallurgy of gold extraction, and the choice of processing routes for free milling, complex and refractory ores is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioleaching of gold and copper from waste mobile phone PCBs by using a cyanogenic bacterium

TL;DR: In this article, a cyanide generating bacterium was used to leach out gold and copper from the waste mobile phone printed circuit boards (PCBs) containing ∼34.5% Cu and 0.025% Au in YP (yeast extract and polypeptone with glycine) medium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved gold and silver extraction from a refractory antimony ore by pretreatment with alkaline sulphide leach

TL;DR: In this article, an antimonial refractory gold and silver ore was investigated using alkaline Na2S leaching, and the results showed that the leaching of the ore consistently resulted in low extraction of gold (49%) and silver (18%) confirming the refractive nature of the mined ore.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of refractory behaviour of complex gold/silver ore by diagnostic leaching

TL;DR: In this paper, the amenability of a refractory ore to the extraction of gold and silver by cyanide leaching was investigated and diagnostic leaching tests were also performed to shed light on the refractive characteristics of ore.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of potassium hydroxide pretreatment on the extraction of gold and silver from a refractory ore

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of potassium hydroxide concentrations (0.5-5m ol/L), temperature (20-80 °C) and particle size (5-50 μm) on the removal efficiency of antimony were investigated.

The passivation of chalcopyrite subjected to ferric sulfate leaching and its reactivation with metal sulfides

TL;DR: In this paper, the passivation effect created by a reaction product other than sulfur is neutralized to some extent by introducing metal sulfides such as HgS, As2S3, SnS and CoS, so that the metal sulfide nuclei deposited on the passivating layer restore the initial reactivity between the solid and the leaching solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterial oxidation of an arsenical gold sulphide concentrate from Olympias, Greece

TL;DR: In this article, the bacterial oxidation of an extremely refractory gold sulphide concentrate, from Olympias, Greece, is examined, where leaching tests were conducted in air-stirred pachuca reactors in order to determine the effect of pulp density on the degree of pyrite and arsenopyrite oxidation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics improvement of high-grade sulphides bioleaching by effects separation

TL;DR: In this article, the IBES process has been applied to a Spanish copper-zinc and a copper sulphide concentrate, and the objective has been to selectively dissolve zinc, which may be recovered by solvent exraction, the remaining residue being a copper concentrate suitable for pyrometallurgical treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Batch biooxidation of a gold-bearing pyrite-arsenopyrite concentrate

TL;DR: In this paper, the specific rates of biooxidation of arsenopyrite and pyrite were found to be very similar at 0,15 d −1 or as mass rates, for both types of materials.
