TLDR
The effects of anemia and hypoxia on erythropoiesis in Lepisosteus platyrhincus were examined in this paper, where cells morphologically similar to erythroblasts appeared in the circulation and their appearance was paralleled by increases in δ-aminolevulinic acid and 3 H-thymidine uptake by peripheral blood cells.

6 - Hematocrit and Blood Oxygen-Carrying Capacity

P. Gallaugher, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1998 -
TL;DR: The hematocrit (Hct) and blood oxygen-carrying capacity in fishes has been described as an adaptation to the greater blood viscosity that would result from cold temperatures.

Toxicological effects of dehydroabietic acid (DHAA) on the trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, in fresh water

TL;DR: It is concluded that 20 μg l −1 is close to the “minimum effective concentration” of DHAA to rainbow trout, suggesting an increased and altered use of body energy reserves, decreased plasma volume and impaired liver function.

Erythropoietin gene from a teleost fish, Fugu rubripes

TL;DR: The cloning and characterization of the erythropoietin (Epo) gene from the pufferfish, Fugu rubripes is reported, the first nonmammalian Epo gene to be cloned, and transient transfection studies suggest that although the Fugu Epo promoter many not be hypoxia inducible, the gene may be regulated by hypoxIA.

1 Fish Blood Cells

Ragnar Fánge
- 01 Jan 1992 -
TL;DR: The metabolism of vertebrate red cells generates energy for the maintenance of cell shape and for the transport of substances across the cell membrane, and the different aspects of fish blood cells are discussed.

Erythrodynamics in Goldfish, Carassius auratus L.: Temperature Effects

TL;DR: As Hb phenotype options are influenced by conditions obtaining during cell formation and/or maturation, adjustment of isomorph abundances may be achieved with minimal concomitant increase in blood viscosity and cardiac work through partial elimination and replacement of preexisting erythrocytes.

Humoral Factors Influencing Erythropoiesis in the Fish (Blue Gourami—Trichogaster trichopterus)

TL;DR: The starved gourami may find use as a test animal for erythropoietic factors from other lower vertebrates as well as as a study of in vitro stimulatory effect on radioiron uptake by peripheral red blood cells of the goursami.

Iron metabolism and erythrocyte formation in fish.

TL;DR: Signs of longer-living erythrocytes were found in tench and at high oxygen concentration or in nitrogen atmosphere less Fe59 is incorporated in in vitro experiments into ery Throcyte hemin than in air.
